Albuquerque, NM- March 3, 2009-- Albuquerque is a violent place to live. Consistently, it ranks in the top ten cities per capita for violent crime. Gangs, drugs and predators further complicate Albuquerque's climate for violence. Turn on the local nightly news (any night) and the top stories will be about the newest violent crimes of the day. The discovery of Albuquerque's serial killer victim's bodies on the West side stands as a reminder to us all that we are potential victims of violent crime.
Nationally, the murder rate is 6 per one million per year. The incidents of aggravated assault is 4 per one thousand per year. The United States is a dangerous place and people have realized that it is a good idea to know how to protect themselves and their family members.
An old retired soldier once said that people fall into three categories: sheep, wolves and sheepdogs. Mot citizens are nice, decent people who are incapable of hurting one another. Generally, sheep don't want to acknowledge that there is evil in the world. They live in denial. The public resistance to APS Police carrying firearms is a good example of this denial in Albuquerque. There is no safely in denying the potential for violence.
Wolves are mean creatures who prey on normal citizens or sheep. They sometimes act without mercy and don't operate with normal values, morals and ethics. Turn on the news for the newest example of a Wolf. An aggressive sociopath is a person who has a capacity for violence with no empathy towards people.
Sheepdogs protect the sheep and they are people who have a capacity for violence but love their fellow citizens. Police, security, firefighters and soldiers are good examples of sheepdogs. Normal citizens can also become sheepdogs through a proper mindset and training. Sheepdogs are alert and prepared for trouble if it presents itself.
