October 9, 2009- Austin, TX- The new website femaleselfdefense.com got a great new press-release. I am honored to be traveling across the county to provide women's self defense seminars, classes and training.
Austin Texas based, Summit Self Defense has launched a large program to provide women's self defense training in all forms. "I understand that we all have vulnerabilities and we all have fears. Some women are in bad situations and need immediate help while others want to ensure their safety for those they love. I address all women's concerns for self defense options and offer many different types of training in positive learning environment," says Summit's Founder, Robb Hamic.
I always begin my ladies self defense class with the question "how many of us can successfully defend ourselves from a violent attack- right now." I realize that this is a bad 'ice breaker.' Most people bow their heads or avoid my eye contact. That's OK because we all have to start somewhere.
Next, I talk about the 'Boston Strangler,' Albert DeSalvo. Between June 14, 1962 and January 4, 1964, 13 single women (between the ages of 19 and 85) were murdered in the Boston area. Most had been sexually assaulted in their apartments and were murdered in the manner indicated above. Without any sign of forced entry into their dwellings, the women were assumed to have either known their assailant or have voluntarily allowed him into their homes, believing him to be an apartment maintenance person or some other service person. While the police were not convinced that all of these murders were the work of a single individual, much of the public believed so. The media certainly fueled the idea of a single murderer referring to him with names such as 'The Phantom' and 'The Sunset Killer' before settling on 'The Boston Strangler.
Now, I give the women another 'what if' where I remove them from the attack and tell them that The Boston Strangler is standing over their child when they enter their home. I ask if they could defend their child? I get a lot of different responses but there is an overwhelming yes (or I would die trying).
What is the difference between protecting yourself and your child? Commitment. When you have a child you make a commitment to protect them but many of us have not made a commitment to protect ourselves.
Ask yourself this question: "who will take care of your children and loved ones if you get killed in an attack or emotionally destroyed in a sexual assault?" Please make a commitment to yourself now.
~ I borrowed the above class introduction/ description of the Boston Strangler from a mentor and self defense pioneer, Tony Blauer. Mr. Blauer founded the system n which I am a certified fundamentals coach, Personal Defense Readiness (PDR).

About women's self defense instructor Robb Hamic:
He specializes in all forms of self-defense instruction for women and recognizes that not all people learn the same way. We have specially designed programs to meet women’s needs.
Robb has been married for twelve years and the father of three kids (two girls). He respects and admires women. Robb has undergone three successful breast lumpectomies in the past four years to remove tumors and he is a supporter of breast cancer awareness and screening. His staff has proper training on issues that effect women and training methodologies. Robb was a Sheriff’s Deputy and Detective and has seen all aspects of violence perpetrated against women. He is familiar with today’s threats and prevention methods. His focus of self defense training is to empower women to detect, deter and if necessary defend themselves against danger.
He currently trains thousands of women in small classes, seminars and private lessons in areas such as: personal defense readiness (PDR), Israeli methodologies , American combatitives, handgun instruction, deployment and concealed handgun licensing, Taser devices and deployment, use of OC spray and more. He recognize that every woman has a different challenge and therefore he offers many options to keep you safe.
"I believe that self defense is a human right and I work hard to deliver training to women because I know that 1 out of 3 women will be victims of an assault or sexual assault. That is not right and it makes me mad. I do this and ultimately I look forward to phone calls and e-mails from women saying that they used what they learned to avoid bad situations or stop attacks against them," says Robb Hamic.

I am honored to know you Robb Hamic. Thank you for the training that you have given to me and my friends. I hope I never have to use self defense but what you teach is so simplistic- I know that I can remember it in a stressful situation when I need it.
